How Terminal Commands Work

A quick overview of the Godel command syntax. For the full reference, head to the official documentation.

Godel Terminal is driven by a command line at the top of the workspace. You type a short mnemonic — optionally prefixed with a security identifier — to open a function: a description, a chart, time-and-sales, fundamentals, filings, and so on. This page explains how that syntax is structured. It is not a full reference — the authoritative list of every command lives in the official Godel documentation.

The command syntax

Most commands follow one of two patterns. Security-scoped commands take a ticker and an asset-class qualifier before the command itself. Global commands — anything that isn't about a specific security — are entered on their own.

Security-scoped

TICKER COUNTRY/INSTRUMENT ASSET-CLASS COMMAND

Example: AAPL US Equity DES opens the description page for Apple's US-listed stock.

Global

COMMAND

Example: TOP opens the top news function — no ticker required because the function isn't tied to a specific security.

What commands can do

At a high level, Godel's command set covers the same surface area as any professional terminal. Rather than memorising individual commands up front, it's more useful to know which capability areas exist — then look up the specific mnemonic when you need it.

Security research

Company descriptions, price charts, fundamentals, analyst ratings, SEC filings, and ownership data.

Market data & flow

Real-time quotes, Level 2 depth-of-book (US equities), time & sales, and options chains.

Scans & monitors

Most-active lists, news headlines, and global index monitors for equities, FX, and commodities.

Workspace tools

Calculators, watch-list management, and the other utility functions that live inside the terminal.

Full command reference

For the complete, up-to-date list of every command — including exact syntax, parameters, and examples — use the official Godel documentation. It is maintained by the product team and reflects the terminal's current behaviour.
